Club Rules

We are committed to the welfare of all our members. Above all else we want our club to a safe, fun and enjoyable place to be, so we have zero tolerance for bullying. If a child engages in bullying, the club will engage with them and their parent/guardian to explain that their behaviour is unacceptable and must not be repeated or the club will exclude them from any further training. Any adult engaging in bullying will be excluded from the club without any warnings. In such cases refunds for membership will not be given.

Rules which must be followed for your safety and for the safety of others :

  1. By attending training you are declaring yourself/ your child fit to do so.

  2. You must bring to the attention of the instructor (in private in necessary) any disability, injury, condition or impairment which may have a bearing on your/ your child’s ability to train. We do not expect people to ‘push through’ or ignore injuries/conditions. Training will be altered to suit the individual.

  3. Never show aggressive, threatening, or abusive behaviour towards anybody in the club – this also applies to parents and guardians.

  4. For the safety of others, training is done in bare feet unless you have a physical condition which prevents this. Outdoor shoes must not be worn on the dojo floor for training.

  5. Training starts promptly at 6.30 pm. Please arrive a few minutes early.

  6. Students must maintain a high standard of personal hygiene. Toe and finger nails must be clean and cut short. Long hair must be tied back.

  7. Spectacles are not allowed to be worn during sparring/drills unless you have a visual impairment which would otherwise prevent this. Rings and/or any other jewellery must not be worn during training.

  8. Gi’s must be clean, equipment and personal clothing must be kept tidy and away from the Dojo floor.

  9. Mobile phones must be switched off or set to silent.

  10. On no account should anyone practice drills, pad work or sparring, without instruction/permission from the instructor.

  11. Never attempt any technique until you have been taught it by an instructor.

  12. Never use bad language in the club.

  13. Never eat or chew during the lesson. Drinking to maintain hydration is encouraged.

  14. Always wear your uniform / Gi unless given permission to do otherwise.

  15. Under the age of 12 – a responsible adult must remain in attendance on the premises during training.

  16. During club activity, any adult associated with the club may not spend time alone in a 1-2-1 situation with any unrelated child/young person/vulnerable adult except in an emergency.

  17. We may need to share information about any disability or impairment with other students for the safety of the student during training e.g. in self-defence drills. We will discuss this with you beforehand.

  18. A lack of focus and discipline; disruptive or unruly behaviour; and failing to follow instructions during lessons, all result in an unsafe environment and places all club members at risk of harm. Such behaviour may result in you/your child being removed from the lesson and excluded from further lessons.

The drills we carry out typically involve one student acting as the attacker and one the defender, but we do not allow or encourage students to engage in actual full contact fighting where the intent is to injure an opponent. However, karate for self-defence is a physical contact activity and it is possible that minor marks or minor injuries may happen from time to time.

Members are encouraged to  share, with any of the club's instructors, any concerns they may have.
