Students with Health Conditions or Disabilites

Everyone is Welcome at Danketsu-Do! 🥋

We believe karate is for everyone, both families and individuals – and everyone has the right to learn how to defend themselves.

We’re proud to welcome students of all ages and abilities, including those health conditions, or with physical, sensory, or learning disabilities.

Our instructors are committed to creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where every student can learn, grow, and enjoy their training at their own pace.

Health Conditions

By training with us, you are declaring that you or your charge are physically fit to do so, and you must bring to the attention of the instructors (in private, if necessary) any disability, injury, condition, or impairment that may affect your or your charge’s ability to train.

We may need to share information about any disability or impairment with other students for the safety of the student during training e.g. in self-defence drills. We will discuss this with you beforehand.

We do not expect anyone to ‘push through’ or ignore injuries or health conditions. Training will be adapted to suit the individual, and everyone works at their own pace. In certain circumstances, we may require confirmation from a medical professional that you are fit to train.

Children & Vulnerable Adults with Disabilities

To help us provide the best possible experience, we kindly ask that a parent or carer stays on site during the session. This helps us ensure your child feels safe and supported at all times, and we can refer to you for advice if needed.

Students with Learning Disabilities

We’ve found that students benefit most when a familiar adult (such as a parent, carer, or support worker) trains alongside them. This extra support helps with focus, understanding instructions, safety, and building confidence in class. You will both need to join the club and train together.

The only circumstances under which we would not be able to accept a student would be if their condition meant we were unable to guarantee their/others' safety.

If you have any questions or would like to talk about how we can support you, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’re here to help.
