Equipment
For your first few lessons you can just wear loose comfortable clothing - shorts or track suit bottoms, and a T-shirt are ideal.
After your first few lessons, you will need your own gi (uniform). Having your own gi is essential, as it provides protection, and some drills require clothing that can withstand pulling and tearing.

Striking training equipment (punch and kick pads) is provided by the club, but uniforms and personal protective equipment are not provided for hygiene reasons.

Gis can be obtained quite cheaply. The club can advise you on size and help source a gi for you at minimal cost.
If you choose to provide your own, please ensure it is designed specifically for karate, not for judo, taekwondo, BJJ, or kung fu. Importantly make sure it comes with a white belt!
